There are trail shoes, and then there's the Speedgoat. HOKA's flagship trail runner has built a reputation over the years that very few shoes in any category can match — trusted by weekend warriors and ultra runners alike, across some of the most demanding terrain on the planet. The Speedgoat 7 doesn't arrive trying to reinvent that legacy. It arrives having quietly made it better.
The updates here are purposeful rather than dramatic, and that's exactly the right call for a shoe with this much goodwill behind it. Watch the full Rundown of the HOKA Speedgoat 7, below.
Upper
The engineered mesh upper has been reworked to feel lighter and more breathable without giving up the structure that makes the Speedgoat dependable on technical ground. A supportive internal chassis keeps the foot planted and composed when the trail gets uneven, while a gusseted tongue reduces pressure points across longer efforts. A TPU mudguard protects where it needs to, and a heel pull-tab makes getting in and out straightforward after a long day on the trail.
Midsole
The signature EVA midsole carries over, but with a slightly more energetic rebound dialled in. It's still the plush, confidence-inspiring ride the Speedgoat is known for — just with a little more life underfoot when the pace picks up. At 38mm in the heel with a 5mm drop, it sits in familiar Speedgoat territory: cushioned enough for big days out, connected enough to keep you honest on technical descents.
Outsole
The Vibram® Megagrip outsole remains one of the best reasons to choose the Speedgoat, and HOKA has left well enough alone here. Aggressive 5mm lugs dig in on loose, wet, and unpredictable surfaces with the kind of confidence that lets you stop thinking about your feet and focus on the trail ahead.

Verdict
The Speedgoat 7 is what a great seventh iteration should be — familiar where familiarity is a strength, and better where better was possible. If you've run in a Speedgoat before, you'll feel right at home. If you haven't, this is a great place to start.
