UTA Staff Diaries: Chasing a PB with Lachie

We love running, and so does our team. So, it only made sense to start sharing more of their stories around here.

Welcome to UTA Staff Diaries, a space to celebrate the personal running journeys of our team and where you can get a peek into the world of Up There Athletics through their eyes—the products they’re loving, the shoes in their rotation, the races in their calendar and so on.

Meet Lachie, our Warehouse Supervisor. A new face on the UTA team, Lachie makes sure all online orders reach our customers and all new stock reaches our stores—every single product goes through Lachie’s hands. When he’s not packing orders, Lachie is playing footy and training for his second Half-Marathon, and he’s got big goals.

Hi Lachie, tell us a bit about your next race. The distance, why you chose it, the goal you have in mind.

After a long footy season and a short training block, I’ll be doing a half-marathon for my next race in October. I have only ran one race previously and am aiming to beat that time and run it in 1h 40.

What have been your favourite products recently—the shoes you always reach for, the brands that you feel good in, your running staples?

Although recently I’ve been venturing out with what shoes I wear when I run, I’ve always loved running in ASICS and the new Superblast 3’s didn’t disappoint. They're very light and soft underfoot.

I’ve also been loving the Erniold x UTA collab gear, especially the Run Cap, it’s a great fit and stays tight on my head while running so I don’t need to constantly readjust—a must for me!

You’ve completed your run, what are you doing immediately after?

Depending on what I’m doing after the run changes what I do once I’m finished, if I’ve got plans, usually straight into the shower and straight out. If I’ve got the day to myself, I’ll usually sit down on the couch for a little bit, have a bite to eat (love myself a couple of lollies) and a chocolate milk.

After the race, it’ll definitely be at the pub for a drink with some friends.

Are there any products you have your eye on for Race Day?

I’ve been loving some of the New Balance shoes which have been coming through recently and have had my eye on the FuelCell SuperComp Elite v6’s. It would be fun to test them out and wear them for race day.

Anything you’ve been listening to on your runs recently?

What I listen to depends on what training I am doing. Varies from music by The Dreggs, Ziggy Alberts, The Rions and Royel Otis for my slower sessions and then usually a set by Franck, a Scottish DJ, for my faster sessions.

Any final special mentions? Brands you are loving, things you can’t live without?

A good pair of socks! I recently discovered the District Vision Cordura Socks, as well as the Elite Run Sock Hypers from On and they're both great.
